Castle Hill - West Yorkshire
Share
Castle Hill is a much loved and well known landmark to those living in West Yorkshire. The hilltop has a long and mysterious history and evidence shows that humans have called this area home for over 4000 years.
Sitting proudly on top of the shale and sandstone hill is the Grade II listed Victoria Tower which can be seen from many miles away. Surprisingly the tower is relatively new and was built in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's exceptionally long reign. However the hilltop is littered with remains of banks and ditches dating back from the early Iron Age. It seems like every generation has left its mark on this beautiful area. Today even the overhead electricity cables have been buried to allow for kite flying.
