Penshaw Monument Travel Poster
Penshaw Monument Travel Poster
Built in 1844 this well loved folly is officially known as The Earl of Durham's Monument but known locally as Penshaw Monument. It is a replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens and also features on the badge of Sunderland Football Club. A real local treasure.
It now belongs to the National Trust and is a truly wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful countryside. A steady climb will reward you with breathtaking views across the north east where you can watch the sunset, walk your dogs or simply put the world to rights.
